Exploring the

wilds of childhood

Mixed-age Preschool and Kindergarten in the forests of Ashland, Oregon

Our educational philosophy is guided by Waldorf principles, emphasizing holistic development, creativity, and curiosity. We believe in nurturing the whole child through a curriculum that includes imaginative play, artistic activities, and a deep connection to nature.

We see early childhood as a time of awakening into the world, a time of wonder, receptivity, and yearning to participate actively in daily life. As teachers, we aim to create a cozy nest–a landing–for children to fall into as they begin to leap with abandon. This period moving from preschool through kindergarten, is a time for imagination to be nourished and encouraged to unfold. Children explore with their many senses and use play to develop language. It is our work to slow down and create an atmosphere where beauty and reverence for life prevail.

into our World

"It's a wondrous thing how the wild calms a child."

  • Children eating snack at forest school

    Shared Snacks

We offer two organic, gluten-free, dairy-free snacks each day. The children grow, harvest, and chop foods for their snacks. They are so very capable of participating and enjoy being able to develop their skills—to imitate caretakers and feel their contribution to a communal meal.

  • Preschool teacher shows children how to craft using natural materials

    Skill Building

Focus is placed on teaching safe skill-building and crafting. Over time and with great care, children are taught to whittle, chop vegetables, and sew. This instills attention to detail, respect for sharp tools, and a sense of responsibility, and hones their dexterity and proprioception.

    Time Outdoors

Based in the wilds of an Ashland horse ranch we are an entirely outdoor preschool program. We believe nature provides the perfect setting to embrace rambunctious curiosity while supporting one's natural instinct to care for ourselves, our planet, and each other.
